What Are Dental Implants?
When the tooth and its root are completely damaged, the best permanent solution is a dental implant. The dental implant is similar to a screw or rod that is made of Titanium. Titanium is material that is very biocompatible with the human body and is used in other aspects of medicine such as knee replacements. Dental implants can be placed at the time of the extraction or after the extraction when the area is fully healed. Dental implants can be placed in the upper and lower jaw. After the implant is placed, it will take two to three months for the implant to completely fuse with the surrounding bone. This period is considered the healing period for the dental implant. After the healing period is over, an impression is taken and the crown is placed on the implant. At Euclid Dental Center, we will place and restore the dental implant all in our own office.
When considering dental implants, we use a special x-ray called a CT scan to measure the surrounding bone structure to determine the size and width of the implant that we want to use. The CT scan is a three dimensional image that allows us to completely visualize the area that we want to place the implant in. CT scans prior to implant placement are now considered standard of care. At Euclid Dental Center, we have an in-house CT scan machine that we allow us to quickly evaluate your situation and provide you with optimum care at your convenience.
